I’m Dr. Dennis Roberts, a clinical psychologist in Austin. I work with a wide range of issues, though my primary focus is in the area of health psychology.
Clinical Health Psychologists work with people facing challenges such as insomnia, chronic pain or stress-related headaches, depression and anxiety, medical fears, and related issues. There are a number of well-researched mainstream psychological interventions that we can use to help improve the quality of life of people who live with these issues.
My approach is to complement the treatment you receive from your health care team, to help you reduce your experience of symptoms, manage the challenges of any illness, promote healthy alternatives, and support your participation in your medical treatment plan. To accomplish this I may work with you using approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi).
Whatever approach we decide to use in our work together, my overall goal will be to work with you, and your team of healthcare providers, to help you find a better quality of life, including working toward the purposes of reduced anxiety, improved mood, and increased resilience.
Issues that we might focus on in our work together may include:
- Stress, Depression, and Anxiety
- Sleep Problems / Insomnia
- Chronic Pain
- Medical and Dental Fears
- Quitting Smoking
- Unexpected or Significant Medical Diagnoses
- Pre-Surgical Psychological Assessments and Testing on a referral from your primary care provider or other physician.
